The
Online Archive of Credits and Thanks
Big
things come out of little packages! This website started as a modest page
for sharing information such as meeting times and information with a local
reenacting group. Over time it has grown and developed far beyond its original
purpose. Many people have contributed to this growth and all deserve a great
deal of thanks. While I wish to slight no one, there are a few who have contributed
in very significant ways.
First and foremost was Mel Wheat who served both as a friend and a mentor. He provided invaluable direction when I began researching the Rangers and was a constant source of material, inspiration, and encouragement. This site would likely not exist without his contributions and it is as much a tribute to him as to Terry's Texas Rangers.
Misty Guille has given innumerable hours to typing, editing, and researching the material for this site. She has helped to improve the website, has organized and updated my own files of Ranger material, and locates additional material on a regular basis. She is also the primary transcriber and typist of the volumes of material being addeded to the site each month. Additionally, Misty maintained the site for nearly a year when I was unable to do so.
Paul Scott has been a great help. Not only has he provided material and direction, he has always been ready to answer my incessant questions (whether trivial or not).
Andy Jones provided a number of items including a copy of his most remarkable roster, the work of more than a decade of research. His work has proven to be an invaluable resource as we work to discover the individuals who comprised the regiment.
Harry Walters deserves special recognition for his sharing of the Burney papers, one of the first contributions of historic material for the website. These first few pages provided a vision of the possibilities for sharing information and material through the site, a vision that has only grown brighter.
Shannon Clyde helped get the website its own domain and has provided material and ideas towards improvement of the site. The current frame-less page layout is based largely on his ideas and suggestions. He has also provided technical support for site hosting and Email.
The men who reenact as Terry's Texas Rangers, and especially Wally Bobotek, deserve credit for their steady encouragement and questions. These men first shared the stories and lore of Terry's Texas Rangers with me. They taught me to ride and to care for a horse. My appetite and fascination for Terry's Rangers and all things cavalry can be traced back to them. Along with the Terry's Texas Rangers reenactors, I need to thank the members of the Idaho Civil War Volunteers. This group first introduced me to Civil War reenacting and living history. It was while I was in their ranks that the 1860's first came alive for me.
The librarians of the Phoenix Public Library's Interlibrary Loan department deserve special thanks for the numerous items they have located and borrowed for me. Their assistance has been invaluable.
There are many many others who deserve credit as well but whose contributions are not so easily enumerated, especially the many descendants who have shared family history, pictures, artifacts, and memories over the last several years.
To all of you, I give my personal and sincere gratitude.
