We left Rome Ga about the 1st of Sept 1863 (where we had been resting since the 15 of July) our houses all in excellent condition the Com reported 40 men for duty. We marched to Lafayette Ga encamped a couple of days & then went to Alpine where we picketed our week when the enemy advanced on us. The Co being on picket. The enemy come down a trail on the mountain got in near of the picket base & then drove in the picketts. I sent a courier to camp & he ran into them & was captured. the rest of the Co came out after we lost one horse killed we were engaged in the battle of Chickamauga had two men wounded & 5 horses were in the [road] to Tenn. had 3 horses killed at McMinville & one man slightly wounded, were in the fight at Farmington no casualties. came out of Tenn by way of Decatur Ala from there we were sent to E. Tenn. Had a little fight at Marysville & one at Knoxville where we had the man wounded & one horse killed. hada fight on Clinch river. We had a fight near Rutledge two horses killed. crossed the Holstien, fought 4 days. the first day we had one man killed, the third day one wounded & 2 horses killed we are now encamped at this place.
