Genealogy Resources

This section is still under development...

Actually, the truth is, with well over a thousand men associated with Terry's Rangers we have been to far too busy working at genealogical research to write about it. Over the years we have recieved a number of requests from people looking for more information about their ancestors. It has been our experience that by freely sharing our research with others we have bennefited in unimagined ways. When someone emails asking about an ancestor our first step is to ask them to share what information they already have and then check to see if the name or any variation of it appears on the known rosters for the regiment. (We get a great many requests from people seeking information about Texas Rangers of the Frontier or Law Enforcement traditions as well as a smaller number of requests regarding men who served in David S. Terry's regiment.) If the name appears we will pull what information we can from the Rosters and website to send to the person. In this exchange of information we are not simply trading data and thereby merely increasing the sum of information but rather a form of multiplication occurs wherby both we and our visitors actually end up with much more information than was originally available.

Genealogy research in this regard is very much a matter of linking one piece of information to the next. As such, every little piece can help to make the picture clearer. Sometimes seamingly insignificant bits of information can help verify or discredit much larger pieces of questionable material. Something as simple as the name of a spouse or child can help identify a family listed in census records. Places of birth of children and siblings can help to identify areas of residence where an individual may have documents such as deeds, titles, voter registrations, etc. on file. The key is always to start with what you know or suspect and work from there finding the chain of documents and records that link one person with another.

Hopefully this is of some help until such time as we can slow down a bit and expand this section to be of more use. Feel free to email us your questions and ideas and we'll get back to you as soon as possible..Until then, take a look at this small directory of some of our Genealogical Search tools.
