Dear Sir:-You will find enclosed application for widow’s Confederate pension, by Mrs. Nancy E. Calhoun, widow of S. D. Calhoun, deceased.

She has also requested me to write you asking is there any way by which she can get the pension as long as she lived without making application for it in her name; and neglected to make application for for a pension until she found she did not and would not get a pension unless she made application for it.  From what I know of her circumstances and from what she says she is sadly in need of a pension and also this last quarter’s amount.

Dear Mr Sheppard:-

My Mother, Mrs Nancy E. Calhoun has never received her pension which was due December first.  The one with your Christmas Greeting and Best Wishes, which she appreciated very much, dated December 23, was received and suppose the cancelled check is back in your office.

I did not write earlier about the December first having not been received, hoping it would show up later, the mails having been so conjested, and since it is still not there, I am writing you asking if a duplicate can be issued, or what can be done about it?

For the present she is in San Antonio, 131 Neal Ave. and please communicate with her at this address.  However this address is only temporary.

Thanking you in advance for any favors that you might show her, I am,

Sincerely,
