I, Wm. R. Jarmon, Capt. Comdg. Co. F 8th Regt. Texas Cavalry certify on honor that the above named S. L. Anderson is a private in my company; that sometime over the month of October or November 1861, by order of the Copl. Terry, then commanding said Regt., and commissioned the board of officers were appointed to value and appraise the saddles, and horse equipments belonging to members of said Regt; that at said time, the said S. L. Anderson was a private in my company and his saddle was valued by said comdg commissioned officers at $20.00. I further certify that on or about the 14th day of February 1862, the precise date not known, the saddle of said Anderson was burned by order of Col. Wharton comdg. said Regt., with many others belonging to said Regt. at or in the immediate vicinity of Bowling Green Ky., to prevent them from falling into the hands of the enemy, who were then on the opposite bank of the river to Bowling Green and shelling the town, and our Regt. was in the very point of falling back towards Nashville Tennessee to which place we did commence a retreat a few days after the burning.
