A. J. Smith, a member of teh famous Terry's Rangers, and for 78 years a resident of San Antonio, died at his home, 732 Lamar Street, yesterday morning at 12:55 o'clock. He was a native of Columbus, Tenn., and was born November 10, 1835, being 84 years of age at the time of his death.
He was a member of Albert Sidney Johnston Camp, United Confederate Veterans. He is survived by three sons: Fred I., of Pearsall, H. A. of San Antonio and A. J. of Von Ormy; three daughters Mrs. T. A. Eldridge and Mrs. H. G. Edwards, both of San Antonio, and Mrs. C. R. Jones of Tulsa, Okla.
The funeral services will be held from the chapel at Porter Loring's this afternoon at 4:30 o'clock. Rev. W. W. Lee and Rev. D. B. South officiating. Burial will be made in the Alamo Masonic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be D. T. Helland, Carl Roemer, J. K. Harris, J. V. Kimble, H. Honner and Grover Lee.
