AUSTIN, Texas, Feb. 2.–At the age of 105 and after a lifetime of service in the family of the late Major George W. Littlefield, banker and ranchman of Austin, "Uncle" Nathan Stockes, Negro died last night.

As an eleven-year-old slave he was assigned to the care of Littlefield, then an infant, and when the latter entered the Civil War as an officer in the Confederate "Terry's Rangers'" regiment, Stockes was taken along as his bodyguard and servant. He carried Major Littlefield from the battlefield when his master was wounded, nursed him to recovery and brought him back to Texas.

When Stockes was freed, he remained with the Littlefield family. Major Littlefield died several years ago. His will provided financial means for his old servant to live in luxury the remainder of his days.
