S. S. Gott, aged 78; pioneer of Texas and a Confederate veteran, passed away at his home at Lott Saturday. He came to Texas in 1854 from the state of Illinois and settled in Falls county and resided there until the Civil war. He served in the Confederate army with Terry's Texas Rangers. In 1867 he was married to Miss Ellen Johnson and to this union four children were born, all of whom survive him. They are Mrs. Sallie Jordan, John, Texas; Mrs. George Jordan of Coleman, Texas; Charles Gott of PIano, Texas, and Dave Gott of Kemp, Texas. He was a member of the Christian church, having united with that faith in Illinois. Mr. Gott was a member of the Masonic order, having been a member of Carolina Lodge No. 330 for about thirty years.
