The Online Archive of Newspaper Clippings Index
Newspaper clippings are another valuable source in studying Terry's Rangers. Wartime articles often contain information on movements, promotions, and casualties and give us an idea of what information the civilian population had during the war. When reading these articles it is difficult not to put oneself in the shoes of family members who most likely poured over every new issue hopping that it might contain some small tidbit of news related to those loved ones away on far off battlefronts. When you read the casualty reports you can only imagine the relief and despair experienced depending on what one found there. Northern Papers allow us to see the war from another perspective and see how the same event may be interpreted by alternative points of view. Post war articles provide us with every thing from reunion announcements and recollections to news stories and obituaries. These can help us to understand what became of these men following the war, give us insight into what history those who participated saw as noteworthy and may give us clues to genealogy and family histories.

As with all of the Terry's Texas Rangers related material on this site,we are always on the look out for additional items. If you know of articles or clippings not listed or if you possess old clippings that you'd like to share please . Many of the Texas newspapers preserved from the 1800s are fragmentary at best and you may possess clippings that are unobtainable anywhere else. Additionally, many of the newspapers that are preserved are on un-indexed microfilm so that it often requires many, many hours of searching in order to locate a single article. Knowing that a certain article exists is a great help.
