The
Online Archive of Gen. John A. Wharton Candidacy Withdrawal
EDITOR NEWS-Sir: Upon recent and more full consolation with the friends of Gen. John A. Wharton, I now desire you to withdraw his announcement for Congress. When I had that announcement made it was the opinion of those of his friends whom I consulted that it would meet his approval, mainly on the ground, as stated by you, that his health would not enable him to continue through another winter in active service. It is now however understood that his health has improved and that he is determined to continue in the service until the independence of the country is achieved, unless prevented by physical inability or the casualties of war.-You will therefore please withdraw his announcement, and give publication to this note for the information of the public.
Yours, &c.
EDWIN WALLER
