Ferris Sells Horses

Galveston Weekly News
January 14, 1862, p. 1, c.

FINE BLOODED HORSES FOR SALE—Our old friend Dr. Ferris, of Richmond, Fort Bend county, who is on the point of leaving for Kentucky to join the army, offers for sale two fine stallions, which are advertised in another column, with a full description and pedigree. About a year ago we noticed the arrival of "Abd-el-Kader," the Arabian horse, and published an account of his pedigree, which we are unable to place our hands upon at present, as our files are boxed up and have not yet been opened, but we then gave it as our opinion that he was the most beautiful specimen of a Desert Arabian we had ever seen. He has since been acclimated, which must add considerably to his value. The published pedigree of the "Duke of Eikhorn" will speak for itself. This is a rare opportunity for any one wishing to possess a superior animal for the stud, as we feel assured nothing but the fact of Dr. Ferris' leaving Texas temporarily, would induce him to part with two such valuable horses.
