Friend Ned
I am well at this time and in good spearets. I have had a bad thumb. This is the first writing that I have been able to do.
We take up the line of march in the mornig. We have 95 men in our compet, All with a fiew exception jentlem.
There is great excitement in galveston. Some of our boyes went down day before
yesterday and returned yesterday. They say that there is excpectee tite times
in that place.
2 volontears of that place deserted yesterday and started out to the blockade
in a little sailboat and were soon over taken and brought back and I recond
are houng by this time. There is now other vessal at galveston but the one
that has been there all the while but they are exspecting linkonits to por
in by thousands every hour.
I didnot think that I would write to you till I got to Neworeleans [New Orleans]
but I thought I would drop you these fiew lines to let you know that I had
not forgot you.
when I got to string parare Capt King had 40 men on the acont of Colo Carters
redgement being broke up concequencely we joined Capt Harriss [Harris] compeny
of Waco.
we got first lentunant 1 orderly and first corple in the compeny. King is lieu, Freeman ordly, & myself corple.
Ned excuse my writing and spelling. my thumb is so that I hardly can write.
N B we belong Colonel Lubbuc [Lubbock] + Teres [Terry's] regement (unreadable) rangers.
Ned I have nothing more of importance to write you. I am shaim of what I have writen. I will write to you agane at Newore [New Orleans] if I have time. all the boyes that you know are all well and in fine spirets. in teh morning we bid fare well to Texas. Ned remember me if I never see you a gane. I shall all ways thank that you were my friend. give my Dear Ann all the consolation you can and keep her from geting down spireted.
