Dear parents:
[movement of his Regt through middle Tennesse in relation to the enemy and
Bragg's army, a "long and apparently useless trip"; capture of
some of the boys near Louisville Ky; action in and around Bardstown ("in
about 18 miles of Louisville");attempt of Feds to surround and capture
them after leaving Bardstown thwarted by ambush; action at Perryville and
Hartsville; pickets near Nashville and Yankee destruction of flour mill
at Franklin; talk of end of war or armistice]
