Jas. M. & T.A. Loves:

Dear parents:
I have concluded to write again not knowing whether it will reach you or not but hope it may as all of you would like to from us often. I would like very much to hear from you but it is possibly best for you not to undertake to answer as yet there is no certainty that the place to which your letters might be directed would be in the hands of the enemy. there have been various reports of fightingwe have had the report here that two gun boats of the enemy had passed fort Jackson and were shelling the city of N.O. but a man in camp just from N.O. says it is not so - he says he had not got more than to the third station from N.O. till he heard the report that a telegraphic dispatch announced the passing of the boats and shelling the city - there is a report just in camp that we

fifteen iron clad boats at N.O. but how true this is I cannot say - There will no doubt be a tremendous fight here in a few days the enemy are coming this way from the Shilo battle ground in great numbers. the report has just got here that they had the N.O. Crescent Regmt who were near the enemy watching them and that they were surrounded and it took them two days to get out it is no doubt the intention of our Genls to draw the enemy as far from the river as they can and when the next fight comes on I feel confident we will whip them badly - we have a report here that there has been severe fighting at Ft. Pillow in which the enemy were driven back - The enemy are in considerable force on the R.R. from here to Huntsville Ala - they are committing a great many outrages on citizens as they come this way Some of their pickets killed Mrs. Highs brother - they have taken old General Garth and Mrs. Gregg prisoners and destroyed a great deal of property about Genl Garths house - I have just heard that Stones Regmt is here near Corinth in twelve or thirteen miles of where I now am but I will not be able to see the boys if they are there as this regmt is ordered to be ready to march at a moments warning and is also to move to Russelville Ala tomorrow - I will see them if God spares us as soon as I can No news here of importance more than the above

Yours in filial regard
C.W. Love
