Dear Brother H. Mc (?) Jones

I take this opportunity to write to you. We are all well and hope this may find you all well. I have no news of much interest. War is the talk. no fighting hear as yet. I am at home yet but dont know how long I will stay. I should have went with Chap and Hugh but I was opposed to going to Virginia where they wanted to go. That country is too Cold for our Texas boys. We recieved a letter from Chap yesterday Hugh was still sick. he wrote on the 8th of December. They were at Nashville at Cosin Zekels Truetts Hugh has they Typhored fever turn over (page)

We are very dry here. have had no rain in seven weeks. hogs are tolerable fat. Pork is seling at six cents corn worth nothing we heat $1.00 flour Four [$4.00 or $4100] [Dull] at that. everything is quiet hear from Chap & Hugh and James Truett. Father wanted to know whether I had run out my land yet. Yes I had it run out in June. I am better satisfied with it than I excpected to be, but did not buy any more but should if it had not been for the ware. a bout half of it bottom and dont overflow. give my love to all enquiring Friends talk. I remain
