Letter by Pvt. David Chap Jones to his father, A. K. Jones

Camp Johnson Nov 27th [1861] Bolden Green, Ky

Dear Father
I drop you a few lines to let you know how Hugh is getting a long I have just returned from the Hospital he appears to be getting a long pretty well to day yesterday he had some fever to day he has none no paggage in his bowels since this morning the measles have all gone in pretty well they went in on his face in about twenty-four hours but not on his body for about forty-eight one of my mess mates is with him to night I will be with him again in the morning if there is nothing to prevent me two of our Reg died in one room last nigh and one to night Measles I fear some more soon some of our boys have the measles and pneumonia combined I want you to drop Keeton and Jasper a few lines as soon as you receive this it will save me of the time at present I wrote to them since cousin George was here the same time I wrote to you last no particular news from our boys since they left here the morning George Bonds left I will not close this letter untill I see Hugh in the morning
