My Dear Sister
A Gentleman belonging to the 2nd Georgia made his escape after being carried to Nashvill and Says that he saw one of our Regt. in Nashvill by the name of Griffin and that Griffin told him that Brother John with several others were in the Penetentiary at Nashvill & Griffin was taken prisoner at Truin several days before Brother John was taken I feel very sure that John will be with us as soon as they can take him to Louisville and down to VicksburgWhere they prisoners I hope that close confinement will not make him sick Cap Kyle Says that he feels that he must write to Ma telling her that he has done everything that he could do to save Brother He stayed with him trying to get John up behind him untill the Yankees were in thirty yards of him and John told him to save himself
Capt Kyle can hardly keep from crying when anything is said He says that John was the Flower of the Comp and if it could have been so he would have rather lost any one els than JohnAlways ready for duty ever willing John had won the good opinion of all who knew him and had won the esteem of all officers in the regiment
You must tell Mrs. Ship when you se her or any of the Family that Bob Ship is missing I feel very sure that he is not wounded and will be with us again as soon as an exchange can be effected.
Tell Cousin Nish he can say to Mr. Rector that K. K. Rector was wounded through the arm the boys say in two places and they think that the bone was broke He was very sick from the wound and they put him in an ambulance that had been captured but was compelled to leave him in the hands of the Enemy if I had known it when I was with them I would have gone to see him but of course I knew not who were wounded except those that I would work on untill after I got back to the CompOur Regt is just going out on out post duty again The Enemy show no signs yet of advancing Write soon & often Give my love to all enquiring Friends and accept a share yourself.
Your Brother
