AB Briscoe's September 27, 1861 letter to his mother

Andrew Birdsall Briscoe's TTR letters at the San Jacinto Monument.

From New Orleans on September 27, 1861

He paid $40 for a 6-shooter in N.O. With fewer than a dozen for sale, 6-shooters were scarcer in N.O. than Houston. They are to leave at 7:00 a.m. tomorrow for Nashville.

Murfreesboro, February 25, 1862. There were reports that 2 Rangers killed a
Federal officer in Nashville on February 24 but were captured. He doubted
it to be true. Some great lines about his coolness under fire when the
Yankees attacked Bowling Green--but he confesses he didn't realize that he
was under fire.
