John A. Hanna

John A. Hanna was a Confederate Veteran. He served in Company A, 8th Regiment, Texas CAvalry, Army of Tennessee. He married, after the Civil War, on November 21, 1866, possibly in Bosque County, Texas, Susan Elizabeth Harvick. The family moved to Erath County, then to Coleman County, and finally to Runnels County, Texas. They settled in Runnels County, Texas, about 1885, and lived in the Content and Crews communities.

John A. Hanna was born on July 25, 1842. He died May 7, 1889 and was buried in a marked grave in Content Cemetery. His wife was born on May 14, 1850 and died on June 28, 1920 in Concho County, Texas. She was buried in the Paint Rock Cemetery. Their children were:

1. Edna Love Hanna; born March 10, 1869; died Albuquerque, New Mexico; married December 4, 1890, Runnels County, Texas, John T. Tillery.

2. Ellen O. Hanna; born September 19, 1870; died September 26, 1870.

3. Sallie King Hanna; born February 27, 1872; died Albuquerque, New Mexico; married December 4, 1890, Runnels County, Texas; William Ashby Tillery.

4. William Alexander Hanna; born January 22, 1874; died January 21, 1920, Oklahoma; married Ollie George.

5. Geroge Washington Hanna; born September 23, 1877; died February 20, 1944, Coleman, Texas; buried Paint Rock Cemetery; married (1) Annie Preston; married (2) __________________.

6. John Adrien Hanna; born July 3, 1879; died San Angelo, Texas; married Lillie Murl Hamlett.

7. Ole Earl Hanna; born February 24, 1882; died 1945, Big Spring, Texas; buried Paint Rock Cemetery; married Ethel Milliken.

8. Edith Hanna; born March 4, 1888; died Houston, Texas; married Bruce Rutherford.

9. Johnnie Hanna; born September 23, 1889; married James Walter Barr. (Reference: Mrs. J. W. Barr, 400 Seventh Street, Ballinger, Texas 76821)
