James Madison Wheat

Company "E", Terry's Texas Rangers

James Madison Wheat was from Gonzales County Texas. He enlisted as a private in Company E but was promoted to Commissary Sergeant. He served throughout the war, never surrendered and returned to Gonzales County where he became a rancher. He later moved to Baylor County and served as Court Bailiff for his son, Judge Joe Wheat. He wore his Colt pistols up until the the very last day of his life. He died in 1909 and is buried in Bundick Cemetery in Gonzales County.
