Dr. John McQuincy Weston

September 16, 1833 - January 22, 1918


 

Born September 16, 1833 at Columbia, Richland County, SC.
Moved with family to Sumter County, AL by 1850.
Moved to TX in May 1854.
Married Marie Louise Chambers on March 10, 1856 at Richmond, Fort Bend County, TX.
Resided at Richmond, Fort Bend County, TX in 1860 with wife and two children; occupied as a farmer.

Mustered into Company H at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
He was serving as Chief Surgeon of the Regiment by December 1861.
He resigned on April 22, 1862 due to ill health.

Returned to Richmond, Fort Bend County, TX after the war.
Elected Notary Public in 1869, and served two terms.
Admitted to the practice of law in February 1874.
Elected County Judge in 1888, but resigned on September 3, 1889.
Moved to Houston, TX in 1889.
Moved to Sutherland Springs, Wilson County, TX around 1890.

With wife, moved in with their daughter, Eloise, in La Vernia, Wilson County, TX.
Died January 22, 1918 as the result of a fall.
Buried at Sutherland Springs, Wilson County, TX.

La Vernia (Wilson) TX From his Soldier's pension application--
"The records show that J.M. WESTON, private, Company H, 8th Texas Calvary, also known as the 1st Regiment Texas Rangers, CSA, was enlisted Steptmeber 7, 1861. On the roll for November and December, 1861, last on which his name appears, he was reported as follows: 'Transferred. Promoted chief surgeon, 1st Regiment Texas Rangers.' It is stated on the records that he resigned April 22, 1862." On the application, Weston states that he resigned on account of ill health and injuries and rejoined Gen. Wharton west of the Mississippi River.

Died January 22, 1918 at La Veria, Wilson County, TX.
