Graduated 5th in his class from the Kentucky Military Institute in 1858.

Mustered in at age of 24 with Company H in Houston on September 7, 1861.
Present on October 31, 1861 Roll.
Present on November & December 1861 Roll. (Paid to November 7.)
Bunting reported him serving as Ord. Sgt.
Wounded during the Sunday afternoon encounter with the enemy near the boggy ravine at Shiloh, TN on April 6, 1862.
Present on July & August, 1862 Roll. (Paid July1.)
Promoted to 1st Sergeant by August 1862.
Last Recorded on the roll of August 1862.
Claiborne records his being promoted to Capt and Asst. Adjutant on Wharton's staff.
Mortally wounded at Murfreesboro, December 29, 1862.
