George Quincy Turner

August 31, 1828 - March 26, 1864


 

Born in Mobile, AL on August 31, 1828.
Left for Califonia's Gold Rush about February 20, 1849, arriving six months later.
Returned from CA in the fall of 1851 by steamship to New York via Nicaragua.
Assumed management of his father's plantation upon return from CA.
Resided in Hallettsville, Lavaca County, TX in 1860.

Mustered into Company C at Houston, TX on September 18, 1861 by Captain Mark L. Evans.
Became ill on the way to Bowling Green, KY.
Hospitalized in Nashville, TN.
Discharged on January 8, 1862 due to chronic diarrhea.
Recuperated at home until October 1862.
Served as volunteer with Company C until July 1, 1863, when he was ordered to enlist officially at Rome, GA.
Reenlisted at Rome, GA on July 1, 1863, sworn in by Captain Shannon.
Transferred to Colonel Harrison's staff as civil engineer, date unknown.
Left ill at Rome, GA in October 1863.
Received medical furlough on January 14, 1864.
Traveled to Orville, Dallas County, AL where his Uncle William and Aunt Sallie Turner resided.
Died in Orville, Dallas County, AL due to chronic diarrhea on March 26, 1864.

Member of Terry Lodge, regimental, Masonic chapter.
