Born at TN around 1828.
Possibly resided at Galveston County, TX.

Mustered into Company H at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
Captured in the charge at Fallen Timbers near Shiloh, TN on April 8, 1862.
Pressumed dead.
Escaped at St. Louis, MO.
Regained regiment on June 10, 1862.
Promoted to 2nd Corporal by April 1863.
Reduced in rank to private by December 1863.
Captured near Morristown or Talbot's Station, TN in January 1864.
Forwarded to Ft. Delaware, DE in March 1864.
Escaped in Louisville, KY while en route to TX, by April 1864.
Returned to regiment in June 1864.
Received gunshot wound to head in skirmish near Gadsden, AL on October 21, 1864.
Died October 26, 1864 due to gunshot wounds.
Member of Terry Lodge, Regimental Masonic Chapter.
May have been member of Shannon's Scouts.

John S. Stewart was a private in Company H. He enlisted in Galveston. Was captured at Shiloh but escaped to St. Louis. Was again captured at Moss Creek and again escaped, this time at Louisville. He died from his wounds in 1864.

His nephew married the daughter of fellow Ranger E. A. Bolmes, Co. H.
