John Benjamin Rector

Born November 24, 1837 in Bellefonte, AL.
Resided at Bastrop, Bastrop County, TX in 1860 with father and siblings; occupied
as a student or lawyer.
Graduated from Yale College.
Mustered into Company D at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
Discharged in March 1863 and returned to TX.
Rejoined the regiment by December 1863.
Reported as AWOL in February 1864.
Sold horse to purchase rail ticket to return to regiment in East TN in early
1864, but regiment had departed before he arrived.
Traveled to Nolensville, TN until September 1864.
Returned to regiment during Wheeler's raid.
Present and ill in January 1865 and sent to ouse to recover.
Occupied as a lawyer and judge after the war, and active in Republican politics.
Married to Lutie Barton.
First cousin to Thompson Mason Rector, Co. D, and brother-in-law to John H. Washington, Co. D.
