Mustered into Company E at Houston, TX on September 12, 1861.
Elected Captain.
Suffered broken arm during the dismounted skirmish action supporting Ketchum's
Battery at Shiloh, TN on April 6, 1862.
Furloughed to at least October 1862 due to these wounds.
Promoted to Major and Acting Lieutenant Colonel by November 1862.
Resigned in January 1863 due to wounds received at battle of Shiloh (wounds
included gunshot, anchylosis, right elbow).
