Does not appear on rosters for the 8th Texas Cavalry Regiment. There was a Cornelius M. O'Neal in the 30th Regiment, Texas Cavalry (Gurley's) (1st Texas Partisan Rangers), as reported on the National Parks Service Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System and on Ancestry.com American Civil War Soldiers.
Only source located so far suggesting he was a member of Terry's Texas Rangers is his daughter's obituary, where it states that he was a member of "the pioneer Terry's Texas Rangers." Additional information was provided by researchers and census records.
Born in McNairy County, TN in October 1832.
Moved to TX with family some time between 1844 and 1847.
Resided in Dublin, Erath County, TX.
Veteran of Indian Wars.
Married Sarah E. Keith within the year of the July 1860 census.
Died between 1900 and 1910.
