George Daniel Mitchell

Born in LA on November 5, 1829.
Served in War with Mexico.
Married Sarah E. Putman on December 4, 1848.
Resided at Salt Stream, Gonzales County, TX in 1860 with wife and four children; occupied as a farmer and wagon driver.

Mustered into Company E at Houston, TX on September 12, 1861.
Suffered wounds at Shiloh, TN in April 1862.
Promoted to 5th Sergeant by November 1862.
Promoted to Orderly to Brigadier General Wharton by October 1862.
Suffered wound to right shoulder near Mt. Washington or Bardstown, KY in October 1862.
Furloughed to TX from January 1, 1863 to April 30, 1863.
Possibly served as a wagon driver, though unable to use right arm, by March 1864.

Died in Gonzales County, TX on December 17, 1866.
Buried at Wrightsboro Cemetery, Gonzales County.
