George Thomas McGehee

Born at Bastrop County, TX on February 5, 1836.
Resided at San Marcos, Hays County, TX in 1860 with parents and seven siblings.

Mustered into Company D at Corinth, MS on April 15, 1862 by Col. Wharton.
Absent in June 1862 due to illness.
Wounded during Wheeler's 1863 raid, likely at Farmington, TN in October 1863.
Recovered by November 1863.
Present in February 1864.
Left at Greensville, SC by April 1864 to at least June 1864 due to illness.
Present by October 1864.
Present in January 1865 after scout in north AL.
Wounded at Aiken, SC, reportedly on February 11, 1865.
Member of Terry Lodge, Regimental Masonic Chapter.

Wounded at Aiken, South Carolina on February 12, 1862. George's brother, John Francis McGehee fought with Hood's Texas Brigade. Both George and John made it back to Texas alive. Both became cattlemen and George became well known in the 1870s for leading a number of buffalo hunting expeditions out on to the staked plains of west Texas when it was still pretty dangerous because of the Commaches.
