Born in Hinds County, MS around 1835.
Resided at San Marcos, Hays County, TX in 1860 with parents and siblings; occupied as a farmer.
Married in KY in 1860.

Mustered into Company D at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
Promoted to 1st Lieutenant in January 1862.
Commanded company by August 1862.
Promoted to Captain in October 1862.
Suffered elbow wound at Chickamauga, GA in September 1863.
Returned to regiment in November 1863 after an absence due to illness.
Wounded by a falling tree in March 1864.
Present but recovering in April 1864.
Present in August 1864.
Ordered to report to Alexandria, LA to arrest and return absentees of 8th TX and 3rd AR in August 1864.
Ordered by General Hays to report to Austin, TX on July 22, 1864. (Jones Roster indicates he apparently did not return to the regiment.)

Acted as Texas senator and representative and co-sponsor of 1905 Alamo purchase bill after the war.
