Mustered into Company G at Houston, TX on September 16, 1861.
Captured on October 8, 1862, near Perryville, KY.
Forwarded to Louisville, KY for three weeks.
Exchanged at Vicksburg, MS in October or November 1862.
Present in March 1864, through the war's end.
May be James Malem Howell, gr-gr-grandfather of Steve Pray. If these two J.M. Howell's are one and the same, then he was born in 1837, moved to OK some time after the war, and died in 1923.
