William Wharton Groce

Born at TX around 1838.
Resided at Hempstead, Austin County, TX in 1860 with mother and seven siblings.
Mustered into Company B at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
Elected 2nd Sergeant.
Promoted to 1st Lieutenant.
Ill with jaundice during winter of 1861-1862.
Returned to TX on furlough on April 22, 1862 due to illness.
Resigned in August 1862 due to chronic dysentery.
Possibly raising a company from Austin County when General Wharton ordered
him to go to Houston in 1864 (apparently).
Served as Lieutenant and aide-de-camp to General Wharton by March 1864 until
at least March 1865.
Cousin of J. A. Wharton,
Co. B.
Possibly brother of J. E. Groce, Co. B.
