Acted as aid to Colonel Wharton at Shiloh in April 1862.
Transferred as Lieutenant to Brigadier General Wharton's staff in November
1862.
Promoted to Inspector General, date unknown.
Captured crossing the Mississippi River on his way to TX during a furlough
in or before January 1864.
Possibly brother of W. W. Groce,
Co. B.
Possibly cousin of J. A. Wharton, Co. B.
