Eugene Griffin

~1836 - 1869

Born in AL around 1836.
Resided at Fort Bend County, TX.

Mustered into Company H at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
Elected 1st Corporal.
"Transf'd June 12" according to Macmurphy's Diary
Reduced in rank to private by August 1862.
Ill in AL by October 1862.
Captured near Triune, TN on December 27, 1862.
Escaped from prison-bound rail car bound for Chicago, IL in January 1863 with Ire Stewart, Co. B.
Returned to regiment by March 1863 by way of IN, posing as a speaker at a Knights of the Golden Circle meeting to secure funds for his travel.
Hospitalized with syphilis at Jackson, MS in January 1864.
Returned to duty in February 1865, perhaps with regiment, but more likely was transferred to an AL regiment after March 1864, possibly Col. J. Patterson's Brigade, General Roddey's division, with rank of Captain (Jones Roster).

Died in 1869.
