William Aiken Dewoody

Born at Petersburg, Lincoln County, TN around 1829.
Enlisted as private in the Texas Mounted Rangers with J. H. Callahan at Lockhart
on July 20, 1855.
Served until October 19, 1855, when he became Constable of Hays County, Texas.
Moved with parents back to Athens, AL.
Become a conductor for the Memphis and Charleston Railroad.
Married Lucy Ann Tanner on September 5, 1860 in Athens, AL.
Resided at Huntsville, AL in 1860 with wife; occupied as a railroad conductor.
Mustered into Company D near Corinth, MS in March 1862.
Acted as volunteer aide.
Killed in skirmish near railroad trestle along Elk River, near Bethel, TN
on May 9, 1862.
His body was recovered and he was buried in the Athens City Cemetery.
