James Monroe Crain

Pvt., Company "B", Terry's Texas Rangers
Born in Bowie Co. TX in 1842.
His family moved to Port Lavaca when he was very young.
He was living in Indianola, Calhoun Co. prior to the war.
He (along with his younger brother Thomas Freeman
Crain) enlisted in Terry's Rangers in Houston on September 7, 1861.
According to his pension application he was a corporal and served throughout
the war.
In 1868 he married Ida Sparks Crosland, of Indianola.
They had six children.
He worked as a cowboy and machinist in Galveston, Texas
He died in 1923 and is buried in Lakeview Cemetery
