Phillip Houston Coe

July 18, 1839 - October 9, 1871


 

Born in Texas in about 1939.
Resided near Gonzales, Gonzales County, TX.

Mustered in with Company E at Houston,TX on September 12, 1861.
Elected 3d Lieutenant.
Resigned in December 1861 due to illness.
Reenlisted with the 36th Texas Cavalry in early 1862.

After the war, worked as a professional gambler then saloon owner in Abilene, KS.
Moved from Brenham, TX to Abilene, KS between 1869 and 1871.
Killed in Abilene, KS in 1871 by James Butler (Wild Bill) Hickok.
