James Harper Cobb
January 30, 1842 - May 15, 1939
Born in MS on January 30, 1842.
Moved with family moved to TX around 1847 and settled in Gonzales County.
Resided at Big Hill, Gonzales County, TX in 1860, with parents, six siblings,
and R. D. Carpenter, Co. I.
Present at the surrender of General Twiggs in February 1861.
Musterd into Company I in Houston, TX on September 11, 1861.
Wounded in October 1862 by being bayoneted in the ribs, likely in KY.
Detailed to the Commisary Dept. of Wharton's
Division in April 1863.
Appointed "cadet" in October 1863.
Present and working in commissary department in February 1864.
Ordered to report to Col. Tn. N. Waul's command in January 1865.
Surrendered in Gonzales, TX in 1865.
He married Ellen P. Lowe in 1870.
They farmed in Gonzales County, TX.
Together they had at least 5 children.
After the death of his 1st wife he married Alice Ann Mason Bartlett on October
5, 1905.
Applied for a Confederate pension in Saturn, TX, September 1, 1909.
They moved to Bay City in 1914.
Died May 15, 1939.
Buried in Cedarvale Cemetery in Bay City, TX.
