Thomas Sylvanus Burney

May 28, 1842 - March 21, 1910


 

Born in Tallapoosa County, AL on May 28th, 1842.
Moved with family to TX in July 1855.
Resided near Jefferson, Cass County, TX for one year.
Moved to Limestone County, TX in 1856.
Resided in Springfield, Limestone County, TX in 1860 with parents and four siblings.

Mustered into Company C at Houston, TX on September 12, 1861.
Left near Morristown, TN on December 20, 1863 with S. K. Scruggs, Co. C, to shod horses.
Missing by January 1864 and thought to have been captured or to have deserted.
Present by end of war.
Member of Shannon's Scouts.

Returned home to Limestone county in July of 1865.

Married Mary A. Wimbish (daughter of James R. Wimbish and Sarah Coherty) on October 6th, 1879, with whom he had eight children.

Before he died in 1910, he wrote some brief articles and letters about his experiences as a member of Terry's Rangers and Shannon's Scouts.

Died March 21, 1910 at Sulphur Springs, Hopkins County, TX.
