Robert Franklin Bunting

May 9, 1828 - September 19, 1891


 

Born in Hookstown, Beaver County, PA on May 9, 1828.
Resided in San Antonio, Bexar County, TX.

Appointed as chaplain to the regiment on November 3, 1861 and acted in that capacity through 1865.
Accompanied 30 sick men to Atlanta, GA in March 1862.
Member of Terry Masionic Lodge.
From October 1863, remained with sick and wounded at Rome, GA.
Helped establish and headed hospital for TX soldiers at Auburn, AL.
Sent numerous letters to editors of TX newspapers.
Gave last sermon to regiment on September 18, 1864.
Surrendered at Montgomery, AL on May 15, 1865 or June 17, 1865.

After the war, he was a minister and businessman.
Died at Gallatin, TN on September 19, 1891.
Buried at Gallatin, TN.
