Miles Monroe Biggs

Born at Burnt Corn, Monroe County, AL on March 26, 1827 or 1828.
Married Rebecca Effie McClure (also born in Alabama) on December 23, 1848.
Had child Ciscero C. Biggs in AL.
Moved his family to TX around 1855, and settled in McNeil, Caldwell, County,
as pioneering farmers.
Resided at Lockhard, Caldwell County, TX in 1860 with wife and four children;
occupied as a farmer.
Described as 5'7" with sandy hair, fair complexion, and blue eyes.
Mustered into Company I at Gonzales County, TX on April 21, 1862. (According
to family history, a different version of his enlistment states that during
a trip to Shreveport, LA, to buy a load of lumber to be used as flooring for
his home, Miles met and joined up with the Terry's Texas Rangers. He put his
wagon into storage and sent his oxen back home with the message "I'll
see you when the war's over.")
According to family history, he was injured during a skirmish and was sent
home with his discharge as disabled in Jackson, MS.
Discharged on June 24 or 29, 1862 at Chattanooga, TN due to disability.
Signed the 1867 voter registration with an "X," which may have
indicated he was unable to read and/or write.
Wife Rebecca died in 1891.
Married Nancy Varnum on December 23, 1892.
Adopted son, Preson Smith, in or before 1900.
Died of influenza February 6, 1910.
Buried in the McNeil Cemetery, Caldwell County, TX.
