John Henry Beard
September 16, 1832 - May 26, 1909
Born in Allegheny, MO on September 16, 1832.
Moved to Harrison County, TX in 1851.
Engaged in the livery and stage business until 1858.
Moved to the frontier, near San Antonio, TX, and served as a ranger until
the war broke out.
Possibly resided in Harrison County, TX.
Not found on the National Archives transcriptions of the Regimental Muster
rolls. But found on two rolls of surrendered soldiers at the end of the war.
Pvt. John Beard of Co. G, 8 Regt. - Texas Cav. appears on a roll of 15 prisoners
transferred at Nashville from Huntsville, Alabama on May 20, 1865. His residence
is listed as Texas, he is listed as having surrendered at Huntsville, AL on
May 10, 1865.
Pvt. Jno. Beard of 8 Regt. Texas Cav. appears on a roll of prisoners of war who volluntarily surrendered themselves, subscribed to the Oath of Allegiance to the United States on May 21, 1865, and were allowed to return to their homes. Residence listed as Harrison County, Texas. Surrendered at Huntsville, AL on May 10, 1865. Described as 5'10" with dark hair, dark complexion, and hazel eyes.
Married in 1865 to Rebecca Ann Bethenia Duncan, and resided in AL for one
year.
Moved to Red River County, TX, and remained there for eight years.
Moved to McClennan County.
Bought 100 acres in McLennan County, TX on December 22, 1880.
Died on May 26, 1909.
Buried in White Rock Cemetery, McLennan County, TX.
