Mustered in to Company H at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861. Age:20, Equipment value: $55.00, traveled: 30 miles.
Listed as present on October 31, 1861 Muster Roll.
Listed as present on December 1861 Muster Roll.
Listed as present no Setember 1, 1862 Muste Roll (last paid by Maj. Payton up to July 1, 1862).
Wounded in the left hand on April 2, 1863 at Eagleville, TN.
Listed as present on April 30, 1863 Muster Roll (last paid by Capt. Steele up to Jan. 1 1863).
Macmurphy notes he returned from hospital on June 9, 1863.
Listed as present on Dec. 31, 1863 Muster Roll (last paid by Capt. Sharpe up to June 30, 1863).
Listed as present on March 1, 1864 Muster Roll (last paid by Capt. Bartholomew up to Nov. 1, 1863).
Wounded in the foot near Newnan, GA on July 30, 1864.
Led the charge at Sandersville, GA on November 22, 1864.
Letter to a Texas newspaper identified him as Lt. Bassett on November 25, 1864.
C Bassett's HatWounded in the head on Salkehatchie River near Aiken, SC on February 2, 1865.
Paroled at Demopolis, Ala., June 13, 1865.

Acted as Fort Bend Postmaster from March 1899 to October 1901.
Also served as county Tax Collector in 1904.
