Born at Port Deposit, Maryland on November 13, 1840.
Graduated from United States Military Accadamy at West Point in 1827.
Served with Jefferson Davis in the War with Mexico.
Emigrated with family to TX in 1846, settling in Karnes County, TX.
Father served as a judge in Karnes County, TX for six years.
Attended Aranama College in Goliad, TX from 1859 to 1861.
Taught in Oakville, TX in 1861.
Mustered into Company G at San Antonio, TX by Capt. Houston
on September 15, 1861 and/or by Lt. J. W. Sparks on September 16,1861 at Houston,
TX.
Listed on Muster Roll (from origin of company to October 31, 1861) as present
with pay due from enlistment.
Listed on November-December 1861 Muster Roll as having received no pay and
deserted/absent without leave.
Listed on July-August 1862 Muster Roll as present and last paid by Maj. Payton
to July 1, 1862.
Listed on December 31, 1862-April 20, 1863 Muster Roll as present and last
paid by Capt. Steele to Jan. 1, 1863.
Listed on May-June 1863 Muster Roll as present and last paid by Capt. Sharp
to May 1, 1863.
Listed on July 1-December 31, 1863 Muster Roll as present and last paid by
Capt. Sharp to July 1, 1863.
Listed on October 31, 1863-March 1, 1864 Muster Roll as present and last paid
by Capt. Bartholomew to Nov. 1, 1863.
Returned to TX in August 1865 and taught school in DeWitt County, TX.
Admitted to the bar at Helena, TX on October 16, 1866.
Appointed County Attorney in 1867.
Formed a partnership with Major A. H. Phillips, with offices in Victoria and
Indianola, in March, 1869.
Appointed District Attorney for the Sixteenth Judicial District in 1870 and
served for one year.
Married Amanda Elizabeth Wildey on November 30, 1871.
Moved to Austin, Travis County, TX in November 1872 on account of Amanda's
ill health.
Joined the Methodist church in 1879.
Elected as treasurer of the Episcopal Endowment Fund and the Fund for Aged
and Infirm Clergy and Widows and Orphans of the Clergy in 1881.
Appointed a member on the board of managers for the Texas State Lunatic Asylum
In June of 1887, and was subsequently elected president of that board.
Elected as a delegate in April 1889 to the General Council of the church in
the United States, to be held in New York.
Interviewed for the 1890 publication Types of Successful Men of Texas.
Died on April 8, 1898.
Buried at Oakwood Cemetery at Austin, Travis County, TX.
