Born at Fayette County, TX on January 26, 1843.
Resided at Lyonsville, Fayette County, TX in 1860 with parents and eight siblings;
occupied as a farmer.
Described as 5'8" with dark hair, dark complexion, and dark eyes.
Listed as having joined for duty and enrolled on August 24, 1861, at age
19, at Fayette County, TX, by Louis M. Strobel, on Company Muster-in Roll
(Houston, TX, September 7, 1861)
Mustered into Company F at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861. (Muster Roll
for Nov. 7, 1861 to Jan. 7, 1862)
Listed as present with pay due from date of enlistment on Muster Roll for
Sept. 7 to Oct. 31, 1861, Capt. Louis M. Strobel's Company, 1 Regiment Texas
Rangers
Listed as absent and ill at Nashville, and last paid by Paymaster Davis to
Nov. 7, 1861, on Muster Roll for Nov. 7, 1861 to Jan. 7, 1862.
Participated in Battle of Shiloh, TN in April 1862.
Listed as last paid by Capt. Botts to July 1, 1862, on Muster Roll for July
& Aug. 1862.
Discharged on July 2, 1862 on certificate of disability. (Muster Roll for
July & Aug. 1862)
Returned to TX and quickly recuperated.
Joined command raised by Jack Baylor to scout on western frontier and Arizona,
but was sent to the "Indian country."
Elected Lieutenant of Company F of Col. Peter Hardeman's regiment.
Assigned to artillery service and acted as Assistant Adjutant General on staff
of acting Brig. Genl. J. M. Bankhead.
Assigned as ordinance officer for the brigade through 1863.
Acted as aide-de-camp on staff of Genl. R. M. Gano, then Charles De Morse.
Participated in battle of Poison Spring, near Camden, AR.
Returned to the "Indian country."
Assigned to staff of Gen. S. B. Mazey of Doaksville, Choctaw Nation, in summer
1864.
Married Margaret E. Lane Ward in Fall 1864.
Appointed drill master of Gen. Gano's brigade, which went into winter quarters
on the Red River (Gano Camp Farm) in Winter 1864-65.
Assigned to Col. Hardeman's regiment & appointed to take command of Company
E which had been abandoned by its officers; he served in this capacity to
end of war.
His company disbanded near Houston, TX.
Taught school after the war.
Visited his parents in Western TX in Fall 1866.
Occupied as clerk in a mercantile house at Rocky Comfort, [AR] from 1867-1869.
Appointed as assessor in 1868 and acted as such in Spring 1869 for a term.
Occupied as farmer.
Appointed again as assessor and acted as such from 1870-71.
Operated real estate business in Rocky Comfort, [AR].
Served as deputy clerk and postmaster for several years.
Admitted to the practice of law in the State courts in 1873.
Moved to his farm in 1873 and farmed until 1874.
Elected again as assessor of the county for two more years.
Taught in public school from 1876-77.
Admitted to the practice of law in the Federal courts in 1878.
Returned to farm in 1878 until 1882.
Elected as county surveyor in 1882 and additional terms.
May have died in 1903.
