William D. Adams
~1829 - ~April 1865
William D. Adams remains a bit of a mystery. Family sources indicate that he may be the brother of Benjamin Franklin Adams and Andrew Jackson Adams but documentation has not yet been located to confirm this.
Regimental records show he enlisted with company H in Houston on September 7, 1861. His age is listed as 33, his home county as Fort Bend, and his birthplace as Georgia. He was elected to 3rd Lieutenant (jr. 2nd Lieutenant). Has absent on sick furlough in August 1862. Promoted to 2nd Lieutenant by February 1863. On July 9, 1863 he was absent on sick leave. Promoted to 1st Lieutenant by January 1864. Assumed command of Company H in 1864. He resigned in July 1864 after having been discharged with "hemoptysis with profuse hemorrhaging" in May 1864. (Hemoptysis is the coughing up of blood from the respiratory tract.) Claiborne records that he died in April 1865 while on the way home.
