Joseph H. Andrews

~1836 - ~1862


 

Born at Shelby County, TN around 1836.
Moved with family to Lavaca County, TX around 1847.
Became part owner of a store in Oakland, Colorado County, TX; father became a successful farmer.
Resided at Hallettsville, Lavaca County, TX in 1860 with parents and one sibling; occupied as a laborer.

Joined local militia unit, Oakland Grays, under Captain J. Duff Brown in August 1861.
Mustered into Company F at Houston, TX on September 7, 1861.
Present in January 1862.
Wounded and left behind while dismounted during the engagement with the enemy's reserve forces at Shiloh, TN on April 7, 1862.
Seen near Aberdeen, MS returning home.
Presumed to have died, as he never returned home.

Following the war, his parents and youngest brother emigrated to Mexico where they lived out the remainder of their lives, never knowing what became of Joseph.
